Do NAD+ patches work?

Nobody has published a study measuring NAD+ getting through human skin from a patch. Three searches run against PubMed in September 2026 turn up no such study at all, and the two transdermal NAD+ papers that do exist were done in cells, in skin samples and in worms. Neither was done in people, and neither used a patch.

What the evidence says

The tightest of the three searches asks for NAD+ together with skin permeation, skin absorption or percutaneous absorption. It returns 0 records. Not a small number of records, not an inconclusive set — nothing.

PubMed, searched September 2026. The query ("NAD+"[Title/Abstract] OR "nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide"[Title/Abstract]) AND ("skin permeation"[Title/Abstract] OR "skin absorption"[Title/Abstract] OR "percutaneous absorption"[Title/Abstract]) returned 0 records. This one returned nothing at all. A count is what one search returned on one day, not proof that nothing exists anywhere.

Widening it to anything with NAD+ and patch or transdermal in the title returns 4 records. Two of them are real transdermal NAD+ work and are described below. The other two use the word “patch” for something else entirely.

PubMed, searched September 2026. Two are laboratory delivery papers (captured here as pmid 42170234 and 39312410); the other two use the word patch for something else entirely — a mouse coat-color mutant and a histochemical staining pattern in cat thalamus. A count is what one search returned on one day, not proof that nothing exists anywhere.

A search that returns nothing is not proof that nothing exists. It is evidence about what has been indexed and published, and the query is printed above so anyone can run it again and disagree with a result rather than with a claim. What it rules out is the thing a buyer needs: a published measurement of how much NAD+, if any, gets past human skin from a patch worn by a person.

What is actually sold

Very little, on this roster. Just 2 of 107 sellers publish a patch figure at all, between them 2 figures, and every one of them is a “from” floor rather than a rate you could budget against. Not one is a standing monthly price. Of the 2, 1 states anything in milligrams, and what it states is a concentration rather than a dose.

That is the commercial picture: a fringe route, priced from a floor, sold by the kit. Compare it with the injection, which has two orders of magnitude more sellers behind it on the same roster, or with the whole route census, which sets all nine side by side.

Read that against the section above. The claim is about energy and recovery; the evidence a buyer would need is a measurement of how much of the molecule arrives, and that measurement has not been published.

What the laboratory work tested

Two papers are worth naming, because both are genuinely about getting NAD+ or a precursor through skin and neither supports a patch.

A 2026 paper describes an engineered carrier built to move NAD+ into skin, and reports results in cultured cells, in pig and human skin taken out of the body, and in the worm C. elegans. Its own abstract gives the reason the work was needed: NAD+ delivery to skin is limited by poor stability and tissue accessibility. A skin sample in a laboratory rig is not a person, and an engineered carrier is not the adhesive patch on sale. Microneedles, carrying a precursor
A 2024 paper coats 3D-printed microneedles with nicotinamide mononucleotide, a precursor rather than NAD+, and measures how much crosses human skin in a laboratory diffusion cell. Microneedles pierce the skin; that is the entire point of them, and it is the opposite of the case a stick-on patch has to make. Both are ordinary, useful research. Neither says a patch works, and neither was designed to. The distinction that matters to a buyer is between a molecule that can be pushed through skin by a purpose-built vehicle in a rig and a molecule that crosses skin on its own from an adhesive square. The second one is what is on sale.

What to check before you pay

None of this says a patch cannot work. It says nobody has published a measurement showing that it does, and a price is being charged in the meantime. Whether that is a reasonable purchase is your call; whether the evidence exists is not a matter of opinion, and the searches are printed above.
